Misconception 1: Turning can only process circles, and its function is more limited than milling
Turning can not only process outer circles, but also various features such as end faces, conical surfaces, arcs, threads, curved surfaces, and rolling patterns. Any structure formed by rotary forming can be achieved. In the field of rotating bodies, the efficiency and accuracy of turning cannot be replaced by milling, and the two are complementary rather than high-low.
Misconception 2: Milling equipment is more advanced, and the machining accuracy is definitely higher than turning
The accuracy depends on the equipment level, process plan, and operator level, rather than the process itself. The turning accuracy of high-precision CNC lathes is much higher than the milling accuracy of ordinary machining centers; Conversely, the contour accuracy of complex surfaces can only be achieved through multi axis milling. The two excel in different dimensions of accuracy, and there is no absolute distinction between high and low.
Misconception 3: It can be done anyway, just choose any craft
Forced milling of rotating parts results in low efficiency, high cost, and poor surface quality; It is impossible to achieve forced turning of planar irregular parts. Reasonable process selection can reduce processing costs by more than 30% while ensuring quality, which is the core lever for cost reduction in parts processing.
